Triangle Area Calculator

Calculate the area of a triangular plot using its base and corresponding perpendicular height. Enter both measurements in your chosen unit to get the square-area result.

Calculate Triangle Land Area

Enter the base and corresponding perpendicular height of your triangular land plot using the selected length unit.

Triangle Area Formula

The area of a triangle is calculated by multiplying the base by its corresponding perpendicular height and dividing the result by two.

Area = (Base × Height) ÷ 2

The height must be the perpendicular distance from the chosen base to the opposite vertex. It is not necessarily the same as one of the triangle's sloping sides.

How to Calculate Triangular Land Area

  1. Measure the base of the triangular plot.
  2. Measure the perpendicular height corresponding to that base.
  3. Make sure both measurements use the same length unit.
  4. Multiply the base by the perpendicular height.
  5. Divide the result by two.
  6. Report the result in the corresponding square unit.

Example: 50 ft Base × 30 ft Height

Suppose a triangular plot has a base of 50 feet and a corresponding perpendicular height of 30 feet.

Area = (50 × 30) ÷ 2

Area = 750 square feet

Using the Triangle Calculator for Land Measurement

This calculator is useful when a triangular plot can reasonably be represented by a triangle and you know its base and corresponding perpendicular height. You can select the measurement unit, enter both measurements and calculate the geometric area.

The geometric area calculated here is different from local revenue or customary land-unit conversions. If you need the result in a local land unit such as bigha, biswa, or another regional unit, use a conversion source appropriate to the relevant location and measurement convention.

Common Measurement Mistakes

  • Mixing feet with metres or another length unit.
  • Confusing feet (ft) with square feet (ft²).
  • Using a sloping side as the height when it is not perpendicular to the selected base.
  • Forgetting to divide the base × height result by two.
  • Assuming the geometric area automatically represents a local revenue-record measurement.

When Not to Use a Triangle Area Calculator

If the plot has different length and width measurements and is rectangular, use the Rectangle Area Calculator instead.

If all four sides of the plot are equal and the plot is square-shaped, use the Square Area Calculator instead.

If the plot boundary is irregular, this basic triangle formula may not represent the complete land boundary. Irregular plots require a separate geometric method based on the actual boundary shape or measured points.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the formula for triangle area?

The formula is Area = (Base × Height) ÷ 2. The height must be perpendicular to the selected base.

Can I calculate triangular land area in feet?

Yes. Enter both the base and perpendicular height in feet, and the corresponding result can be displayed in square feet.

Does the triangle height have to be a side of the plot?

No. The height is the perpendicular distance from the chosen base to the opposite vertex. It can lie inside or, for some triangles, outside the triangle.

Can this calculator calculate an irregular plot?

Not directly. This calculator uses the standard triangle area formula and should only be used when the relevant triangular geometry is known.

Land Measurement Note

This calculator provides a geometric area calculation based on the measurements entered by the user. It does not determine legal ownership, cadastral boundaries, survey boundaries, or official revenue-record area.
